The Gold Road

The Gold Road is the main trading spine that runs the length of the Bright Coast and beyond. The Gold Road proper originated in Goldenmere, from whence it derives its name, though most commoners presume it to be named for the ‘flow of gold’ that runs along it through most of the year.

It’s lowest destination is the port city of Poisson in Kervassel, from which it skirts the border of Ashelan before making its way through Aurian to the Great Fork in Khordim. The Road’s western-most brance that runs through Caerdon to Ilband is officially titled the Westgold Road, though it is more commonly known as the Lion’s Road due to the heavy taxes levvied by state officials state of Caerdon as the road passes through Caerleon.

Of course the road goes by many other names on its long journey north – most local townships simply call it ‘the Road,’ but its most common nicknames in Aurian include ‘the North Road’, ‘Northingway’, ‘the Orc Walk’ and ’Grug’s Path’ – the latter two being named after an obscure local folk hero of ages past.
